Dj Spinhandz has been on the Slovak hip-hop scene for more than two decades and focuses on mixing music using two turntables. He doesn’t just reproduce music but creates live sound collages on the surfaces of his set using the turntable. He has quickly gained attention through his success in DJ battles – a form of DJing competition, playing at hip hop parties, through mixtapes and collaborations with artists of different genres and last but not least through his collaboration with rapper Strapo. In the context of the Slovak alternative-club scene, the collaboration with Ukrainian producer Karaoke Tundra, translated into the mixtape Duck with the Head of a Tiger, can be considered legendary. Its sequel, Iguana with a Monkey’s Head, was also released on vinyl under the Prague-based Bigg Boss label in 2019. In both cases, it’s a crazy mix of custom mashups, collages from the film world, beat production, scratching, and exclusive storytelling from rappers tailor-made for the mixtape. The musical selections he’s close to are hip hop, soul, funk, jazz, r&b, grooves & breaks.
